A Doctor Too Handsome for My Pain

A singularity,

the nerve in my shoulder,

an electronic grid,

tingling, pulsing, throbbing.

A doctor’s office

on North Main

absorbs my sinews,

his wedding band.

Health smolders

in the cold steel

of a stethoscope,

wakes the breasts

in the cups of my bra.

Juanita Rey is a Dominican poet who has been in this country five years. Her work has been published in Pennsylvania English, Opiate Journal, Petrichor Machine and Porter Gulch Review.
